Meditation instead of detention? Mindfulness in Schools

Mindfulness is a subject I truly believe has impact on not only adults but children too. Its an ancient practice described as: 'A mental state achieved by focusing one's awareness on the present moment, while calmly acknowledging and accepting one's feelings, thoughts, and bodily sensations, used as a therapeutic technique.'

A school in Baltimore have created 'Mindful Moment Rooms' because detention adds zero values to the lives of our next generation. They were taught breathing techniques and a calming way of being. There was relaxing music and a plush comfortable environment. I wish I had this growing up.

Mindfulness is important because it draws attention to your internal feelings highlighting discourse and helps you to become aware. This in turn can make managing uncomfortable emotions easier as they are now identified.

This should be made compulsory in schools within PSHE time.
